Former President Tsai Ing-wen visited Tainan today to deliver a speech at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on the qualities of an 'empathetic decision-maker.' Following the speech, she went for her first hike in the Meiling Scenic Area in Tainan's Nanxi District, expressing that she was impressed by the enthusiasm of the people and the beautiful environment. Her speech, titled 'Resilient Growth: Practicing to be an Empathetic Decision-Maker Amidst Pressure and Controversy,' was open to NCKU students and staff. All 900 seats were snatched up instantly, and many who couldn't enter waited outside to catch a glimpse of her. According to participants, Tsai identified rationality, empathy, and accountability as key traits of an empathetic decision-maker. She encouraged students to learn to make decisions amid uncertainty, coexist with differing opinions, and maintain inner stability. NCKU President Shen Meng-ru quoted Tsai saying that leaders must have empathy beyond rationality to understand what opponents are thinking. After the speech, Tsai accepted an invitation from Tainan mayoral hopeful Chen Ting-fei to hike in Meiling. Accompanied by supporters, Tsai walked up the Meifeng Trail and down the Wulong Trail, visited the Wulong Temple, and enjoyed local food at a restaurant.
