Former President Tsai Ing-wen Speaks on 'Empathetic Decision-Making' at NCKU, Enjoys Hiking in Meiling

Former President Tsai Ing-wen visited Tainan City today to deliver a lecture at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) titled 'Resilient Growth: Practicing to Be an Empathetic Decision-Maker Amidst Pressure and Controversy.' All 900 available spots were filled instantly, with many supporters waiting outside to catch a glimpse of her. During the lecture, Tsai stated that the traits of an 'empathetic decision-maker' include reason, empathy, and accountability. She emphasized the need to learn how to make decisions amidst uncertainty, coexist with differing opinions, and maintain inner stability. NCKU President Shen Meng-ru quoted Tsai as saying that leaders must have 'empathy' in addition to reason to understand what opponents are thinking. She also encouraged students, saying, 'History will tell you many things and provide inspiration before you enter society; most importantly, never give up on yourself.' After the lecture, at the invitation of Tainan mayoral hopeful Chen Ting-fei, Tsai went hiking in the Meiling Scenic Area in Nanxi District. She trekked from Meifeng Trail to Wulong Trail, enjoying the scenery and visiting local temples. Tsai expressed her deep impression of Meiling and the warmth of the local residents.
