Trump Overhauls Independent Agencies: All National Science Board Members Dismissed

WASHINGTON (CNA) – Two members of the US National Science Board confirmed today that the Trump administration has dissolved the entire committee, dismissing more than 20 members. Established in 1950, the board guides the National Science Foundation (NSF) and advises the President and Congress on science and engineering policy. Members Yolanda Gil and Keivan Stassun confirmed they were notified on April 24 that their dismissals were effective immediately, with no reason provided. Gil, a professor at USC, noted that the members represented academia, national labs, and industry. Stassun, from Vanderbilt University, expressed disappointment, viewing this as part of a broader trend across federal departments. While the White House suggested the board's mandate might need 'updating,' it stated that the NSF would continue to operate 'unaffected.'
