(Central News Agency reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, 28th) Taiwan High Speed Rail announced today that platform screen doors will be installed at all stations nationwide, with Hsinchu and Banqiao stations prioritized for construction, expected to be completed and operational by the fourth quarter of this year. The full line of platform screen doors is anticipated to be installed by the first quarter of 2028.
To further ensure passenger safety, Taiwan High Speed Rail will comprehensively add platform screen doors at all stations. An inauguration ceremony for the HSR 11-station platform door project was held today at Hsinchu Station.
Taiwan High Speed Rail stated that the project is undertaken by Panasonic Taiwan and has a total cost of approximately NT$2.05 billion. The new platform screen doors will adopt a semi-high, transparent design, standing about 120 centimeters tall. They can withstand Category 17 gusts and the air pressure generated by trains entering and exiting stations at high speeds. In terms of design, deep gray is combined with the original color of stainless steel to create a simple, modern style consistent with HSR stations.
Taiwan High Speed Rail mentioned that Hsinchu and Banqiao stations are prioritized for the new platform screen door construction, which will then be progressively extended to other stations in phases. Hsinchu and Banqiao stations are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of this year. The second phase includes seven stations: Taichung, Taoyuan, Miaoli, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan, expected to be completed and operational by 2027. Nangang and Zuoying stations are expected to complete the installation of platform screen doors across the entire line by the first quarter of 2028.
Shih Che, Chairman of Taiwan High Speed Rail, said that the installation of platform screen doors is a very important part of "HSR 2.0." It can significantly enhance passenger safety during waiting, optimize queuing order, and simultaneously prevent items from falling onto the tracks, further ensuring operational safety.
Taiwan High Speed Rail stated that the newly constructed platform screen doors will consider the differences in door positions between the new generation N700ST trains and the current 700T trains, specifically adopting a "widened" door panel structure to ensure high operational flexibility of the system. Furthermore, in response to future extreme climates, the platform door structure design not only complies with building seismic design specifications but also passed Category 17 gust tests to ensure high stability during extreme weather such as typhoons. The system equipment has also passed international functional safety (SIL) certification.
In addition, Taiwan High Speed Rail said that in conjunction with the commencement of the full-line platform screen door project, the existing platform screen doors at Taipei Station have also been modified. They also adopt a widened door panel to accommodate the future simultaneous operation needs of N700ST and 700T trains. (Editor: Li Hsi-chang) 1150428
