(Central News Agency reporter Hsiao Po-yang, Nantou County, April 28) The Ida Shao area of Sun Moon Lake has many tourists and numerous hotels, and is located at the end of the water supply pipeline, leading to tight water supply during holiday peak hours. Taiwan Water Corporation will drill a 70-meter deep well, construct a new 300-ton water distribution reservoir and electromechanical equipment here, hoping to stabilize the water supply.

Every holiday and long weekend, a large influx of tourists into Sun Moon Lake's Ida Shao area causes tight water supply and insufficient water pressure, affecting residents' lives and hotel operations. Kuomintang Legislator Ma Wen-chun today invited Taiwan Water Corporation's Fourth District Management Office and other units for a survey, successfully advocating for the new drilling of a deep well behind the Ida Shao parking lot and the construction of a 300-ton water distribution reservoir. Approximately 272 households are expected to benefit, hoping to solve the unstable water supply problem, with a total cost of approximately NT$21.698 million.

Ma Wen-chun stated that since Ida Shao is located on higher ground and at the end of the water supply pipeline, end-users often experience insufficient water supply during peak hours, which has long troubled residents and businesses. Sun Moon Lake is an international tourist attraction, and Ida Shao is an important gateway for visitors. If even basic water supply cannot be stable, it will not only affect the quality of life for residents but also impact the tourism image and industrial development.

Ma Wen-chun said that during the severe drought across Taiwan in 2021, the water level of Sun Moon Lake dropped to a historical low, and the tap water in the Ida Shao area even turned muddy. At that time, she actively advocated with Taiwan Water Corporation to undertake water supply improvement projects in Yuchi Township's Sun Moon Village, investing NT$26.31 million to construct two deep wells and pipeline connection projects, which were completed successively in 2023. Coupled with existing wells and lake water resources, the daily water supply increased to about 1,300 metric tons, significantly improving the problem of insufficient water sources.

She said that although the water source volume is now more abundant than in the past, instant water demand remains high during holidays, and there is still water supply pressure during peak hours. Therefore, this time, she again advocated for a second phase of improvement plan. The project will be implemented in three stages, including drilling a new 70-meter deep well behind the Ida Shao parking lot, setting up a 300-ton water distribution reservoir in the second stage for regional allocation and pressure stabilization, and installing electromechanical equipment, monitoring systems, and dosing equipment to stabilize the overall water supply system.
