Russian Refinery Attacked by Ukrainian Drone, Causing Large Fire; Nearby Residents Forced to Evacuate

(Moscow, CNA, April 28) Local Russian officials stated today that the Tuapse oil refinery on the Black Sea coast was attacked by a Ukrainian drone, causing a "large fire," and nearby residents were forced to evacuate.

Reuters reported that industry sources indicated that this refinery, owned by Rosneft, primarily produces oil products for export. However, the refinery had already suspended operations after being attacked by a Ukrainian drone on April 16.

Veniamin Kondratiev, head of Russia's southern Krasnodar Krai, stated on Telegram today: "Another serious incident has occurred in Tuapse. A large fire broke out after the refinery was attacked by a drone."

Sergei Boyko, head of the Tuapse district, has ordered the evacuation of residents near the refinery to prevent danger from the spread of fire.

Ukraine has repeatedly launched airstrikes on the Tuapse refinery and port recently, with one attack causing an offshore oil spill and a fire that lasted for several days before being extinguished.
