PINGTUNG COUNTY (Central News Agency reporter Li Hui-ting) — To prevent outdoor workers and farmers/fishermen from facing the risk of heatstroke, the Pingtung County Government has allocated NT$3.8 million this year to launch a subsidy program for purchasing water-cooled fans, fan-equipped workwear, and water-cooled clothing, offering up to 80% subsidy, with applications now open.

Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work, and Pingtung County Government commended outstanding members of its safety and health family. Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi announced the launch of the new policy, the "Worker Cooling Equipment" subsidy, during the meeting.

Magistrate Chou Chun-mi stated at the meeting that in recent years, climate change has led to an increase in high-temperature days, exposing outdoor workers and farmers/fishermen to the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. This year, a budget of NT$3.8 million has been allocated to provide subsidies for purchasing water-cooled fans, fan-equipped workwear, and water-cooled clothing for micro-enterprises with fewer than 100 employees, self-employed individuals, workers without a fixed employer (insured through a labor union), and farmers/fishermen. The subsidy is capped at 80% of the actual purchase unit price.

Specifically, the maximum subsidy for water-cooled fans is NT$15,000, for fan-equipped workwear is NT$3,000, and for water-cooled clothing is NT$2,000. Applications are now open.

Magistrate Chou Chun-mi stated that in recent years, the county government has promoted the establishment of occupational safety and health families in high-risk industries such as construction and water conservancy. The Pingtung City Office's cleaning team was the first public sector-led safety and health family, leading the promotion of occupational safety concepts among cleaning teams across the county; Kuo Tung International Co., Ltd. received the "17th Excellent Engineering Golden Safety Award" in 2023 for its outstanding occupational safety and health performance.
