Hualien Flood Drills: Xincheng Township Employs Tech for Real-Time Reporting

(CNA, Hualien, 28th) With the flood season approaching, Hualien's townships have completed flood prevention drills tailored to local terrains. The Hualien County Government stated that all 13 townships recently finished specialized exercises. Xincheng Township utilized digital technology to establish a real-time disaster reporting system, improving information integration from the field. Hualien City and Ji'an focused on urban drainage and pump deployment. Shoufeng introduced a drone communication backup mechanism to maintain reporting during extreme outages. Xiulin and Zhuoxi practiced landslide warnings, resident evacuation, and road clearing in remote areas. Fenglin and Wanrong concentrated on river overflow prevention in agricultural zones, while southern townships like Yuli and Fuli enhanced river monitoring. The drills also verified techniques such as mobile pumping, sandbag stacking, waterproof barrier installation, and temporary levee construction using large sandbags. Military, fire, police, and utility companies like Chunghwa Telecom participated. The county government emphasized that these drills showcase preparedness for climate change-driven rainfall risks and promised to continue refining measures through tech monitoring and community involvement.
