(Central News Agency reporter Chang Yi-lien, Kaohsiung, 28th) Fo Guang Shan celebrates its 60th anniversary with the "Fo Guang Shan 2026 International Triple Platform Full Ordination Ceremony for Ten Thousand Buddhas." 220 monastic participants will depart from Fo Guang Shan, Kaohsiung, on May 3 to begin a Taiwan-wide alms pilgrimage, praying for world peace and demonstrating the spirit of compassion and social care.
Fo Guang Shan Kaohsiung announced today in a press release that the Taiwan-wide alms pilgrimage for blessings will first head north to Yilan, Taipei, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu, then turn to Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung.
Fo Guang Shan noted that the pilgrimage will involve 220 monastic participants, walking approximately 1 to 4 kilometers daily. They will collect alms at temples and urban areas along the route, continuing the monastic tradition from the time of the Buddha. Through each step, they will transmit the vows of compassion and peace, concluding with a grand dedication ceremony at Fo Guang Shan's Main Shrine on May 10.
Venerable Master Hui Chuan, Fo Guang Shan's Executive Deputy Abbot and Director of the Monastery Affairs Committee, stated that in a world filled with conflicts and frequent wars, this pure pilgrimage aims to gather good intentions and promote the philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism, hoping to forge a path to world peace and inject stabilizing power into society.
Fo Guang Shan mentioned that the alms pilgrimage system originated during the time of Sakyamuni Buddha. In Buddhist tradition, alms pilgrimage allows practitioners to train their body and mind through long journeys, cultivating endurance and diligence. By interacting with people, they transmit Buddhist teachings and good intentions, ensuring that Buddhism is not confined to monasteries and practice is not separated from human life, thereby entering society to care for all beings and practice the spirit of compassion and salvation.
Founding Master Hsing Yun of Fo Guang Shan pointed out that alms pilgrimage is a personal cultivation for monastics, carrying care and blessings for society, and also demonstrating great compassion and prayers for the world, highlighting the humanistic nature of Buddhism. Fo Guang Shan's alms pilgrimages combine elements of prayer and public welfare, integrating spiritual practice with social responsibility. (Edited by Chen Jen-hua) 1150428
