CWA Launches Precision Weather Forecasts for Penghu Fireworks Festival to Enhance Safety

The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced today that it is deepening its cooperation with the Penghu County Government for this year's Penghu International海上Fireworks Festival. Over the four-month event, CWA will provide several customized meteorological services. According to a press release, CWA will utilize optical lidar observation equipment to capture real-time weather changes and offer precision forecasts for seven specific firework launch locations. Tourists can access all vital weather information via a dedicated festival weather website, ensuring a safe and romantic travel experience. In terms of maritime services, in addition to the seven existing ferry routes, CWA has added sea and weather forecasts for two more routes: 'Jibei-Chikan' and 'Magong-Wangan-Dongyuping-Dongji.' These services feature visualized weather cards and advanced technology to strengthen information delivery during the travel season. Furthermore, the CWA noted that Penghu's unique environment makes it a hub for tourism and fisheries, but extreme weather events in recent years have impacted transportation, tourism quality, and fishermen's livelihoods. Since signing a memorandum of understanding with the Penghu County Government last November, CWA plans to assist in installing maritime monitoring facilities such as wave buoys and lightning detection stations. CWA also aims to develop high-resolution forecasts for waves, currents, and sea temperatures to enhance the climate resilience and sustainable development of local industries.
