China and US Communicating on Potential Trump Visit, Says HK Envoy

HONG KONG, April 28 (CNA) — Hong Kong media reported that Cui Jianchun, the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong, stated today that China and the US are maintaining communication regarding US President Trump's visit to China. He expressed confidence that under the guidance of both heads of state, 'stable and sustainable relations can further boost the confidence of the American business community in Hong Kong,' ensuring their long-term operations in mainland China and Hong Kong and deepening win-win cooperation. Cui made these remarks at a forum hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He added that under the '15th Five-Year Plan,' China would continue to promote Hong Kong's 'Ten Major Centers' and accelerate the development of the Northern Metropolis. He noted that Hong Kong's IPO market ranked first globally earlier this year, marking 'the best development period' for the city. Over 1,400 US companies and 8,000 US citizens live and work in Hong Kong, which Cui called a 'vote of confidence.' Julie Eadeh, the US Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau, also attended the forum. She stated that she and the consulate insist on 'engagement' to maintain fair and reciprocal market access for the US. Eadeh noted that Hong Kong has historically been a place for constructive dialogue, a role she and many others hope will continue. This event marked the first time Cui and Eadeh appeared together in public, where they had a brief exchange.
