(Central News Agency reporter Chang Hsiung-feng, Taipei, 28th) The Central Weather Administration stated that this spring (February to April) was only cooler from late February to early March, but overall it was warmer. This spring was also the third warmest in the same period since 1951; for rainfall, it was normal to slightly less than normal, and the number of rainy days was the fifth fewest since 1951.
The Central Weather Administration held a "Plum Rain Season Outlook" press conference today.
Huang Chun-hsi, Director of the Central Weather Administration's Weather Forecast Center, stated that this spring, apart from a relatively long cooler period during the cold air mass's influence from late February to early March, the overall spring was warmer. Six lowland stations recorded their top three warmest springs for the same period, with Hsinchu Station being the warmest for the same period.
Huang Chun-hsi stated that this spring's average temperature was 21.9 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees higher than the climate value of 20.8 degrees, making it the third warmest since 1951, trailing only 2019 and 2024.
Regarding rainfall, Huang Chun-hsi pointed out that in February and March this year, northeasterly winds prevailed, and the rainy areas were mainly the northern coast and eastern regions. Although there was rainfall in the western part, the amount was less; after April, due to the eastward movement of the South China cloud and rain belt, rainfall increased on the northwest side, and the rainy area expanded to central Taiwan, but the south still had less rainfall. Therefore, the overall spring rainfall was still normal to slightly less than normal.
Huang Chun-hsi further explained that the accumulated rainfall this spring averaged about 227.5 millimeters, which is about 80% of the climate value; however, in terms of rainy days, this spring had 26.5 rainy days, fewer than the climate value of 34.9 days, and also the fifth fewest since 1951.
