Although police tracked down and arrested the suspect, confirming him to be an undocumented Vietnamese migrant worker, the security of the council chamber has drawn public concern.
According to understanding, officers from Wensheng Police Station, Haishan Precinct, New Taipei City Government Police Department, spotted a suspicious man in Section 2, Wenhua Road, near an alley by the city council. When police attempted to approach for questioning, the man resisted inspection and fled.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, the man climbed into the city council and was not obstructed along the way. He ran from the driveway into the underground parking lot, then entered the council compound from the parking lot, and subsequently climbed a tree next to the fence, escaping towards the nearby Arts and Culture Center parking lot.
Police stated that no one was injured or property lost during the pursuit. After expanding the review of surveillance camera footage, the man was arrested around 3 PM on Zhuangjing Road. He was identified as an undocumented Vietnamese migrant worker and will be transferred to the New Taipei City Special Operations Team of the Immigration Agency in accordance with the law.
The City Council stated that it is currently in session, and in addition to council security guards, police officers are also dispatched to assist in maintaining order within the chamber. Therefore, the man did not enter the main chamber during his escape.
