(Central News Agency reporter Hao Hsueh-ching, Su Mu-chun, Taichung, 27th) A sudden power outage occurred around Zhongyou Department Store in Taichung's North District at noon today. Taipower stated that a faulty underground cable caused the outage, which initially affected over 5,000 households in the North and East Districts. After emergency repairs, power was fully restored to all affected areas by nearly 5 PM. The exact cause of the fault is still under investigation.

Today, a netizen posted on the social media platform Threads that there was a sudden power cut in the food court of Zhongyou Department Store's underground mall at noon on the 27th. The lack of air conditioning made it very stuffy, and traffic lights at surrounding intersections also stopped working.

Taipower's Taichung District Office stated in a press release that at 12:47 PM today, an underground cable fault in areas such as Section 3, Sanmin Road, Yizhong Street in Taichung City's North District, and Lixing Road, Section 4, Ziyou Road in Taichung City's East District, caused overheating and smoke, leading to a power outage. A total of 5545 households were affected.

Taipower Company pointed out that after dispatching personnel to the scene for inspection and repair, the preliminary assessment indicated that the fault was due to a direct joint in the underground cable. Following Taipower's emergency repairs, power was fully restored to all affected areas by 4:50 PM. The exact cause of the fault still requires further clarification. (Editor: Chen Ren-hua) 1150427
