(Central News Agency reporter Zhao Liyan, Taichung, 27th) Two nursing students from Hungkuang University encountered an ambulance and a car collision on the road a few days ago. They stopped their scooter and went forward to assist. Afterwards, the ambulance driver called the school hoping for public commendation, but the two humbly said it was a small act and declined public recognition.

Hungkuang University today issued a press release stating that the campus security center recently received a call from the ambulance driver, who thanked the two brave nursing students for providing timely assistance at the accident scene. The two students are Chen and Zhuang, first-year day students in the two-year nursing program.

The incident occurred on the evening of April 17th, when an ambulance collided with another car at the intersection of Taiwan Boulevard Section 4 and Anhe Road. Students Chen and Zhuang, who were riding scooters to go shopping in the city, heard a loud crash while waiting at a red light. The two followed the sound and found the ambulance had been hit. They parked their scooter and went to check the situation at the scene.

At the time, the female driver of the car was panicking due to the accident, while the nurse on the ambulance was busy reporting the incident and coordinating another ambulance to transfer the patient. Student Chen said that both of them had received "Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)" training and thought it might come in handy.

After assessment, they found that ACLS was not needed, but the two still worked together to help open the jammed passenger door of the ambulance, assisted the patient's family members to safely exit, and comforted the startled car driver. After the nurse on the ambulance transferred the patient to the hospital, they stayed at the scene until the police arrived and completed accident processing, helping to send scattered items to the hospital.

The ambulance driver was extremely grateful for the enthusiastic assistance of the two students. Due to the haste at the scene, the two only left their names and school. The driver later called the school, hoping to publicly commend the two students for their courageous actions.

Student Chen pointed out that she and student Zhuang were classmates during their five-year junior college program. They chose nursing as their profession with the ideal of helping and saving people. After graduating from junior college, they successfully obtained their nursing licenses and continued their studies in the two-year program to enhance their professional knowledge. Student Chen humbly said it was just a small act.

Yang Cheng-yi, head of the nursing department, stated that this heartwarming experience of helping others allows the public to see the courage of young nurses and confirms their original aspiration to pursue professional excellence and aspire to become outstanding nurses in the future.
