(Central News Agency reporter Tseng Yun-ting, Taipei, 27th) Due to the impact of the Middle East conflict on raw material supply, there were recent reports of plastic bag shortages in some areas. Recently, rumors of a 'sugar shortage' have also circulated online. Taiwan Sugar Corporation (Taisugar) announced today that the current market supply of sugar is sufficient, with supply increasing by approximately 20% compared to the same period last year, and there is no shortage.
In response to media reports that Taisugar's brown sugar could not be supplied due to a shortage of packaging materials, Taisugar today issued a statement clarifying that there are currently no issues with packaging material shortages. It also stated that it will accelerate production to meet the demands of various channels.
Regarding prices, Taisugar stated that since July 2016, in line with the government's price stabilization policy, the retail price of 1 kilogram of sugar has been maintained at NT$36 and has not been adjusted since then. It will continue to work with distributors to keep prices frozen in the future.
