Central News Agency (Reporter Gao Huaqian, Taipei 27th) - The Rights Restoration Foundation for Victims of State Unlawful Acts during the Authoritarian Period announced today that on the 24th, it held a meeting and approved 53 cases involving compensation for infringements on life or personal liberty, and 2 cases involving deprivation of property ownership, with total compensation exceeding NT$70 million.
To promote transitional justice, the Rights Restoration Foundation for Victims of State Unlawful Acts during the Authoritarian Period is responsible for handling compensation for people whose lives or personal liberty were infringed upon due to unlawful state acts during the authoritarian period, as well as the return or compensation for property ownership deprivation, restoration of reputation rights, and other matters.
The Rights Restoration Foundation stated today via a press release that among the cases of personal liberty infringement approved this time, there were victims who encountered the 228 Incident during their schooling, were injured by stray bullets, and were forced to interrupt their studies; there were also victims whose personal liberty was restricted by security or military agencies.
Regarding cases of property ownership deprivation, the Foundation stated that some victims had their property confiscated or were forced to hand over assets due to unlawful state acts. After investigation, some movable assets have been lost due to the passage of time, and thus compensation will be made in monetary form according to regulations. In addition, some movable assets are currently stored at the Archives Administration, National Development Council, and will be returned according to law.
