Central News Agency - Taipei, April 27. Regarding the Douliu Railway Elevation Project, Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan led a team to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) review meeting today. KMT Legislator Chang Chia-chun also attended to convey the demands of Douliu residents. Ultimately, the MOTC formally passed the feasibility research report. Chang Chia-chun expressed joy at the MOTC's decision and hoped the Executive Yuan would approve it as soon as possible.
According to a press release from Chang's office, the project has been under central review since 2020. It involves complex technical issues such as Taiwan Railway Company's route configuration, northern station curve adjustments, and temporary crossing setups during construction, requiring a balance between safety and engineering feasibility.
Chang noted that the Yunlin team held multiple intensive negotiations with the MOTC, Railway Bureau, and Taiwan Railway. The process included four reviews by the Railway Bureau and three formal reviews by the MOTC, making it a rigorous and complex process. Since returning to the Legislative Yuan in 2024, she made this project a priority, facilitating a consensus on elevation gradients and temporary solutions in 2025.
Chang emphasized that once approved by the Executive Yuan, the project will eliminate 7 level crossings, 2 underpasses, and 3 overpasses, fully resolving traffic bottlenecks and promoting urban development by stitching together the city space, leading to an overall upgrade of Douliu.
