(Central News Agency reporter Wang Shu-fen, Taipei, 27th) The Ministry of Agriculture declared a policy of "reducing chemical pesticide risk by half in 10 years" in 2017. According to the Ministry of Agriculture's latest estimates, the pesticide risk value in 2027 is expected to drop to about 57% of that in 2017.

In response to climate change and global sustainable development trends, and echoing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for "responsible consumption and production," the Ministry of Agriculture announced its "10-year chemical pesticide risk reduction by half" policy in 2017.

The Ministry of Agriculture, in 2017, declared the policy of "reducing chemical pesticide risk by half in 10 years." This was achieved through measures such as promoting Integrated Pest Management (IPM), professional guidance by plant doctors, and subsidies for eco-friendly plant protection materials. Simultaneously, it established a pesticide risk assessment system, promoted tiered management, and gradually phased out high-risk pesticides.

The Ministry of Agriculture's set goal is to achieve the commitment of halving the overall pesticide risk value by 2027.

According to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, high-risk pesticides are gradually being phased out. For example, Terbufos and Ethoprophos were banned from import and manufacture in March this year. From 2027, their processing and repackaging will be prohibited, and from the end of 2028, their sale and use will be banned.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture has established 54 operational guidelines for Integrated Pest Management for crops and created the Sustainable Good Farmer Award in 2019 to encourage all parts of the industry chain to engage in Integrated Pest Management for crops. This effectively reduces the use of chemical pesticides and improves the quality and safety of agricultural products. In 2025, the first plant doctor examination was completed, with 643 successful candidates. One of their important future tasks is to assist farmers in precise pesticide application.
