(Taipei, April 27, CNA reporter Lu Yen-tzu) Mingtai Insurance announced today that it will drive growth with a three-axis transformation: artificial intelligence (AI) transformation, digital deepening, and sustainable governance. In addition to introducing on-premise large language model computing power and optimizing product development, it will continue to develop "situational" insurance for food delivery drivers, athletes, and other groups, aiming to increase its overall market share to 7%.
Mingtai Insurance held a media exchange meeting today, with Chairman Kenichiro Yahachi, General Manager Tang Shih-Tse, Vice General Manager Emi Higashi, and Vice General Manager Li Chih-Chang attending to explain the business strategy.
Kenichiro Yahachi announced the launch of a three-axis driving strategy centered on AI transformation, digital deepening, and sustainable governance. To achieve the goal of increasing market share to 7%, he mentioned that Mingtai Insurance's advantage lies in the average structure of its overall business, with individual insurance products accounting for approximately 55% and commercial insurance products for 45%. The focus will be on the growth of individual insurance products in the future, especially car insurance, residential fire insurance, and accident insurance. This year's signed premium target is NT$22.4 billion, and after-tax net profit is targeted at NT$330 million.
Looking ahead, Kenichiro Yahachi stated that in recent years, accompanied by climate change, changes in new working styles, and the rapid development of digital technology, the forms of risk have become more diverse and complex. The role played by insurance companies is also facing a transformation, no longer merely taking on the role of undertaking risks, but rather needing to be more closely involved in the issues of society as a whole.
Kenichiro Yahachi cited an example: Mingtai Insurance has taken the lead in launching Taiwan's first "Exclusive Athlete Insurance" and "Food Delivery Driver Third-Party Liability Insurance," providing insurance protection for 190,000 athletes and over 10,000 food delivery drivers, in response to changes in social structure.
In terms of sustainable management, Mingtai Insurance explained that it had previously introduced "Micro Green Energy Housing Insurance," which combines a 1.5x additional compensation mechanism for green energy equipment replacement. This has successfully helped over 17,010 policyholders obtain basic protection, responding to the needs of green transformation.
At the same time, facing the industrial changes brought by the AI era, Mingtai Insurance plans to invest more than NT$10 million this year to purchase dedicated GPUs to build on-premise large language model (LLM) computing power. Kenichiro Yahachi predicted that in the second half of the year, data dormant in paper form will be "awakened" and transformed into critical data supporting risk analysis, further deepening digital operations.
Kenichiro Yahachi explained that Mingtai Insurance has been deeply rooted in Taiwan for 65 years and possesses a wealth of customer data for underwriting and claims. For example, in the largest car insurance business, data on accident-prone areas can be combined with official data to promote safety seminars. In addition, after organizing various data, product development can be carried out to meet the preferences and needs of customers with different family structures.
Kenichiro Yahachi mentioned that with the advancement of AI, employees' skills must be adjusted accordingly. In addition to recruiting new talent, existing employees' necessary skills will be strengthened through education and training. In terms of organizational adjustments, information and digital development departments may need to increase manpower, but on the other hand, some existing underwriting and sales operations may be replaced by AI, thereby streamlining manpower.
However, Kenichiro Yahachi also emphasized that human contact and trust are still the most important. Sales representatives, underwriters, and claims adjusters who directly interact with customers on the front line may not be easy to streamline in the short term, because it is still necessary to uphold the principle of "customer first."
