(Central News Agency reporter Chao Ching-yu, Taipei, April 27) Renowned choreographer Hofesh Shechter will bring his dance work "Dream Theater" for his first visit to Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts. This dance piece, co-produced by multiple top theaters including the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, aims to transform the audience's experience from merely "watching dance" to "dreaming together."

In Hofesh Shechter's "Dream Theater," dreams are precisely orchestrated sensory feasts. This work uses the clever movement of stage curtains and the interplay of light and shadow to create a "montage" effect, similar to cinematic cuts, thereby demonstrating a profound reflection on "collectivity."

According to the press release provided by Weiwuying, Shechter believes that human experiences and emotions are quite similar. In "Dream Theater," dancers are no longer just performers but rather carriers of the collective subconscious. Audiences, during the viewing process, will feel their heartbeats and rhythms synchronize, transforming from simply "watching dance" into a magical experience of "dreaming together."

This work has garnered support from 20 art venues across multiple countries, including the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, Sadler's Wells Theatre in the UK, and Maison de la Danse in Lyon, France. It has been hailed by professional art circles as a must-see "star-level" dance piece. Its premiere in Paris sold out instantly, and subsequent tours across Europe in the UK, Netherlands, Italy, and Germany took the European dance scene by storm.

Shechter received extensive musical training in his early years and was also a rock band drummer. His strong rhythm drives the dancers' highly expressive, almost wild physical performances, layering into a fervent, ritualistic state. From works like "Political Mother," SUN, "Grand Finale," "The Bad Guys / The Ugly One," to "Dream Theater," all demonstrate a highly recognizable aesthetic and energy, continuously pushing the limits of physical expression.

Weiwuying has also invited Shechter to concurrently host a masterclass and a professional dance workshop, leading the audience to unravel the charm of this work that has swept the international dance scene.
