(Central News Agency reporter Wu Chia-Hao, Taipei, 27th) Computer brand manufacturer Acer Group is entering its 50th anniversary this year. Founder Stan Shih stated today that throughout its journey, Acer has pursued entrepreneurship with the Wangdao (Kingly Way) spirit, and its greatest contribution and value lie in cultivating numerous talents for Taiwan, creating intangible and hidden value, and bringing long-term impact.
Stan Shih pointed out today in a press release issued through his Acer Foundation that Acer was founded in 1976 with NT$1 million by five co-founders, primarily to seize the opportunity that microprocessors would bring about the second industrial revolution.
Shih stated that at the time, there were no resources, and the market for microprocessors was not yet mature, but everyone hoped not to miss this opportunity again. Taiwan's international competitiveness was in urgent need of a breakthrough, so Acer took R&D combined with brand marketing as its long-term breakthrough point.
To promote the domestic microprocessor market, Stan Shih noted that Acer initially saw itself as the "gardener of microprocessors." Acer's establishment was intended to provide a stage for young people to realize their potential, but traditional culture could prevent young people from doing so. Therefore, since its inception, Acer has been committed to breaking through bottlenecks caused by traditional culture, establishing an environment and organizational culture conducive to the development of the high-tech industry.
In addition, Acer has also actively given back to society by cultivating talent through the Acer Foundation, including early initiatives such as the "Long Teng Paper Award," "Long Teng Smile Competition," and "Acer Digital Creation Competition," which provided a platform for many middle school and university students and teachers to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurship, nurturing many outstanding talents, including new media generative artist Wu Che-Yu and digital artist Chang Henry.
Within the pan-Acer Group family of companies (including Acer, AUO, Qisda, Wistron), there are already 43 listed companies. Now, after Acer Chairman Jason Chen, AUO Chairman Paul Peng, Qisda Chairman Michael Chen, and Wistron Chairman Simon Lin have taken over, they have all become important leaders in the industry.
Stan Shih explained that Acer's greatest value to Taiwan is not how much money it has earned, but how many talents it has cultivated for Taiwanese society, especially the intangible and hidden value created by these talents.
Shih emphasized that if viewed from the "tangible, direct, present" explicit value, Acer is certainly not the company that earns the most money. However, cultivating many talents for Taiwanese society and bringing confidence and hope to young people are the most precious values of Acer over 50 years, and also the goal pursued by the Wangdao spirit.
Looking to the future, Stan Shih stated that Acer will continue to build platforms for the younger generation, allowing young people to grow and gain experience, and to make greater contributions to Taiwan and the international community. (Editor: Chang Ruo-Yao) 1150427
