Following the shots fired at the White House Correspondents' Dinner yesterday, US media revealed that the suspect is a resident of Torrance, California. Taiwanese-American Mayor George K. Chen issued a statement emphasizing that the alleged crime of one individual does not define the city, stating that Torrance "resolutely stands against political violence."
While Donald Trump and Melania Trump were at the event in Washington, a man identified by sources as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen was arrested for firing shots outside the venue. Following the FBI's search of a property linked to the suspect in Torrance, Mayor Chen addressed the association in a statement.
According to the BBC, Chen said, "We are aware of reports indicating the suspect is a Torrance resident. While this connection is deeply disturbing, the alleged actions of one person cannot define our city." He further stressed that Torrance strongly opposes political violence, extremism, and any form of hate.
