(Central News Agency reporter Cheng Ai-fen, Vancouver, 25th) As the one-year anniversary of the tragic car ramming incident at a Filipino celebration event in Vancouver last April approaches, the Taiwanese community jointly visited Wang Feng (Sora), a Taiwanese woman who miraculously survived the ordeal, and donated over 50,000 Canadian dollars (approximately 1.27 million New Taiwan Dollars) in goodwill funds. The Canadian government, on humanitarian grounds, swiftly approved Wang Feng's permanent residency status.

On April 26, 2025, a car crashed into the Lapu Lapu Festival, resulting in 11 deaths and dozens of serious injuries. Wang Feng was one of the survivors who miraculously pulled through after being critically injured.

Over the past year, thanks to the continuous care from her classmates, friends, neighbors, and many overseas compatriots from organizations like the Greater Vancouver Taiwanese Association and Tzu Chi Foundation, she quickly moved from a deep coma towards recovery. After being discharged from the hospital earlier this year, she has been transferred to a rehabilitation center.

On the one-year anniversary of the tragedy, the Greater Vancouver Taiwanese Association organized a heartwarming gathering to celebrate Wang Feng's rebirth and presented her with a check for 55,914 Canadian dollars in collected donations. Secretary-General Fang Shi-ling stated that while this amount may not be large, it represents the love and care of overseas compatriots.

President Wu Ching-kuei hopes that overseas compatriots will continue to care for Wang Feng. She humorously added, "Her roommates and medical staff at the rehabilitation center all speak English. We should visit Wang Feng often and speak more Taiwanese with her, so she doesn't forget her mother tongue."

Wang Feng's close friends, Lin Rui-jia and Yan Qi-ren, were most deeply moved. They recalled that on the day of the incident, they didn't even know if Wang Feng was alive or dead, and only after asking around did they learn she had been rushed to the emergency room. Recalling the 365 days of their journey, they embraced Wang Feng, choked up and shed tears, saying, "We never thought we'd make it through."

Wang Feng called it an amazing journey in her life, full of hardship and warmth. She told the Central News Agency, "Occasionally, I still regret going to that celebration event that day, but then I think, I have so many wonderful people and things around me now, I must live even better."

She said she is actively undergoing rehabilitation and learning to live independently. "Half a month ago, I first discovered that my index finger and thumb could touch each other. I was so happy; this means my finger movement has improved again."

Liu Li-hsin, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, stated that this was an unfortunate tragedy but also a true story full of love, where many strangers came together to protect and help Wang Feng, who was injured in a foreign land, to live again.

Liu Li-hsin also thanked the Canadian government for its help. Because Wang Feng traveled to Vancouver with a working holiday visa in early 2025, and the accident occurred just over three months later, the Canadian government, to ensure she could receive full medical care, expedited the approval of her permanent residency status, allowing her to live peacefully in Canada.
