Washington, April 25 (CNA) — The U.S. Central Command announced today that the U.S. military intercepted a merchant vessel belonging to Iran's "shadow fleet" that was attempting to pass through the Arabian Sea.

The U.S. military indicated that the merchant vessel, named Sevan, belongs to the "shadow fleet." This shadow fleet, comprising 19 ships, is responsible for transporting Iranian oil and natural gas products to overseas markets.

The Central Command stated that a Navy helicopter from the USS Pinckney, a U.S. Navy destroyer, intercepted the ship in the Arabian Sea. The Sevan is currently being "escorted" back to Iran as per superior orders.

The U.S. Central Command further added that the "shadow fleet" has been sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department for helping to transport billions of dollars worth of Iranian oil and natural gas to the market. (Editor: Chi Chin-ling) 1150426
