Shooting Near Taichung Courthouse Over Drug Dispute; Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder

A shooting occurred this afternoon near the Taichung District Court. Taichung police received a report at 2:36 PM regarding a suspected shooting on Fuhou Street. Officers arriving at the scene found a 27-year-old man, surnamed Lin, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was conscious and rushed to China Medical University Hospital. Investigations revealed that at 2:30 PM, a 46-year-old man, surnamed Zhang, entered Lin's car at the intersection of Siwei and Fuhou Streets. During negotiations, Zhang shot Lin once in the abdomen and fled on foot. A special task force was formed, and through surveillance footage, they located Zhang at his nearby residence, arresting him at 5:20 PM. A firearm used in the crime was recovered. Police believe the incident stemmed from a drug trade dispute. Zhang will be charged with attempted murder and violation of the Firearms Act. The Taichung Prosecutors Office emphasized zero tolerance for violence and assigned a prosecutor to lead the investigation.
