(Central News Agency reporter Hsieh Chun-lin, Taipei, 26th) A man surnamed Lee assaulted a 3-year-old Filipino girl without cause in the main hall of Taipei Main Station yesterday. Police arrested Lee and referred him for prosecution on suspicion of attempted murder. After questioning, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office prosecutor applied to the court for detention, and the judge today approved the detention, citing significant suspicion of a crime and concerns about repeat offenses and flight risk.

The Taipei Branch of the Railway Police Bureau stated that at 2:25 PM on the 25th, they received a report of a person being shoved and attacked in the 1st-floor hall of Taipei Main Station. After questioning multiple witnesses who saw the incident, they confirmed that the attacker was a man in a striped shirt, surnamed Lee. Police later arrested Lee outside the West 1 Gate of Taipei Main Station.

The Railway Police Bureau stated that surveillance footage confirmed the 40-year-old Lee kicked the girl in the abdomen. The girl sustained swelling on her cheeks and limbs and was sent to National Taiwan University Hospital for treatment.

Lee initially confessed that he targeted the girl because he was displeased with her making noise and causing a commotion at the scene. After police questioning, Lee was transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on suspicion of attempted murder, with a recommendation for the prosecutor to apply to the Taipei District Court for preventive detention.

After questioning, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office prosecutor determined that Lee was suspected of causing injury, that the suspicion of a crime was significant, and that there were facts sufficient to prove a risk of repeated offenses and flight. On the 25th, they applied to the Taipei District Court for detention. The judge of the Taipei District Court held a hearing this afternoon and approved the detention, believing that Lee was a significant suspect and posed a risk of repeat offenses and flight.
