(Central News Agency reporter Yu Kai-hsiang, New Taipei, 27th)The final batch of 28 M1A2T tanks, purchased by Taiwan from the United States, arrived at Taipei Port last night. Starting at 00:10 today, they were transported by civilian large flatbed trucks from Taipei Port to the Armored Training Command in Hukou, Hsinchu. Police and military police were deployed on site for traffic control.

A Central News Agency reporter observed the scene along the access road outside Taipei Port. From 00:10 onwards, more than a dozen civilian flatbed trucks successively drove out of Taipei Port, carrying M1A2T tanks wrapped in black waterproof tarpaulins. They will be transported via the West Coast Expressway to the Army's Armored Training Command in Hukou, Hsinchu. In addition to police implementing traffic control along the route, military police vehicles also escorted the convoy from front and rear.

The Army has approximately a thousand tanks, including CM-11 Brave Tiger tanks and M60A3 tanks, but they have been in service for over 20 years. In addition to purchasing new engines for M60A3 tanks, the Army has allocated NT$40.52415 billion for a continuous budget from 2019 to 2027 to procure 108 M1A2T tanks, renowned as the "strongest tanks on Earth." These are planned to be stationed with the 6th Army Corps to defend the northern region.

The first batch of 38 M1A2T tanks arrived in Taiwan in December 2024 and conducted 120mm tank gun live-fire exercises at the Hsinchu Kengzikou training ground on July 10 last year. A total of four tanks were deployed, firing 19 rounds, all hitting targets mimicking the frontal appearance of Chinese Communist tanks, demonstrating the precision and stability of the Hunter-Killer system. The second batch of 42 M1A2T tanks arrived in Taiwan on July 28, 2025, and both batches have now been commissioned.

As for the last batch of 28 M1A2T tanks, they were completed in production in the United States in late February and early March this year and were transported by sea to Taipei Port yesterday. After joint inspection by Taiwan and the United States and subsequent relevant training (equipment conversion, combat readiness mission training, qualification tests, etc.), the M1A2T tanks will achieve full combat capability and be commissioned.
