WASHINGTON (CNA) – During President Trump's attendance at the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner last night, a gunman reportedly attempted to enter the ballroom. U.S. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated today that the suspect is believed to have targeted high-level officials of the Trump administration.
Reports from AFP and the BBC indicate that Blanche told CBS's 'Face the Nation' that, based on very preliminary information, investigators believe the gunman's 'target was members of the government.'
Blanche also informed CBS that investigators found the gunman had stayed at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the event was being held. He added that the suspect has not been 'actively cooperating' with the investigation. It is believed the individual traveled from Los Angeles by train, passing through Chicago to reach Washington D.C.
