(Islamabad/Washington, April 25, Central News Agency) US negotiating representatives are scheduled to depart for Pakistan today, but Tehran has stated that Iranian officials do not plan to meet with US counterparts to discuss ending a war that has claimed thousands of lives and destabilized global markets.
According to Reuters, the White House announced that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would depart this morning for talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stated at a briefing that Iran has an opportunity to reach a "good deal" with the United States.
He said: "Iran knows they still have an opportunity to make a wise choice. All they have to do is abandon nuclear weapons in a meaningful and verifiable way."
Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi arrived in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, yesterday.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated on social platform X that Iranian officials do not intend to meet with US representatives. The spokesperson said that Iran's concerns would be conveyed to Pakistan.
Two government sources indicated that upon his arrival, Araqchi immediately went to the Serena Hotel to meet with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. This was the location of the first round of US-Iran talks. (Compiler: Liu Shu-chin) 1150425
