(Central News Agency, Washington, April 24, exclusive report by reporter Hou Ziying) After former U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce transferred to become Deputy U.S. Representative to the United Nations last year, the spokesperson position remained vacant for several months. The State Department announced today that Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott has officially taken over.

The State Department issued a statement today appointing Pigott as its spokesperson. As spokesperson, Pigott will directly address U.S. and global audiences, explaining how the State Department, under the leadership of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is advancing President Donald Trump's foreign policy.

Piggott subsequently posted on platform X: "Under the leadership of Secretary Rubio, I will continue to provide you with the latest developments on how the State Department is advancing President Trump's 'America First' foreign policy."

The State Department noted that Pigott joined the State Department and the Trump administration in January 2025 as the Principal Deputy Spokesperson. He has nearly 10 years of communications experience, having previously worked for Trump's 2024 campaign team and the Republican National Committee (RNC).

According to State Department data, Pigott is from New Jersey and holds a bachelor's degree from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and a master's degree from the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs.

After Trump returned to the White House in January last year, veteran U.S. media personality Tammy Bruce served as the State Department spokesperson. In August last year, Trump announced his nomination of Bruce as Deputy U.S. Representative to the United Nations, and the appointment was approved by the Federal Senate in December last year.
