Agence France-Presse reported that a 14-year-old student earlier this month opened fire at a school in Kahramanmaras province in the south, killing eight 10- and 11-year-old students and one teacher.
Authorities stated that the perpetrator student, who also died in the attack, was carrying five guns. His father, a former police inspector, was arrested after the incident.
Another incident occurred in Sanliurfa province in the southeast, where a suspect broke into his alma mater and opened fire, then committed suicide when police arrived. The incident left at least 16 people injured, including students and teachers.
According to the decree signed by Erdogan, Cihad Demirli replaced Nazif Yilmaz, who was dismissed.
