(Central News Agency reporter Chang Jung-han, Tainan, 25th) The new construction project for National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Elderly Hospital topped out today and is scheduled for completion in August 2027. NCKU Hospital stated that this will be Taiwan's first dedicated model hospital for the elderly, set to become a hub for smart healthcare in geriatric medicine and lead Taiwan's medical sector to a new milestone.

The NCKU Elderly Hospital is located at the intersection of Dongfeng Road and Linsen Road in North District, Tainan City. Former President Tsai Ing-wen presided over the groundbreaking ceremony in October 2021. Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-cher noted at today's topping-out ceremony that Tainan's population aged 65 and over has increased from 275,000 in 2018 to nearly 380,000 today, indicating rapid aging and increasing demand for care. The elderly hospital will provide more comprehensive medical care services.

NCKU Hospital explained that the NCKU Elderly Hospital has a total budget of nearly NT$4.5 billion, constructing a modern medical building with 12 floors above ground and 5 underground, equipped with approximately 450 beds. With "holistic care for the elderly" as its core, it will integrate outpatient clinics and acute general wards.

Furthermore, NCKU Elderly Hospital plans specialized services such as post-acute care wards, palliative care wards, rehabilitation centers, psychiatric day hospitals, hemodialysis rooms, endoscopy rooms, operating rooms, intensive care units, health management centers, and sleep centers. The architectural design, environment, and circulation are all designed to create an age-friendly space, extending medical services from the hospital to homes and communities.
