(Central News Agency reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Nantou, 25th) A Nantou police officer surnamed Chang covertly filmed a female officer bathing in the dormitory washroom last year. Following an appeal by the prosecution, he has been sentenced to eight months in prison. The female officer, who suffered immense physical and mental anguish and continues to receive counseling, was awarded NT$600,000 in mental distress compensation by the Nantou District Court. The ruling can be appealed.

According to the indictment from the Taiwan Nantou District Prosecutors Office, the officer surnamed Chang went to the co-ed dormitory washroom in March last year and filmed the female officer bathing for two consecutive days. The female officer noticed a mobile phone above the door and, realizing the camera was pointing at her, shouted loudly. Officer Chang immediately fled the scene.

After the incident, the female officer reported it to the police station chief and precinct chief. Surveillance footage was reviewed, and Officer Chang was deemed highly suspicious, leading to the seizure of relevant evidence.

In the criminal portion, the Nantou District Court initially sentenced Officer Chang to three months in prison for each of two counts of illegally filming sexual images, with an aggregated sentence of five months. The prosecutor appealed, and the Taiwan High Court Taichung Branch recently changed the sentence to five months for each of the two counts, resulting in an aggregated sentence of eight months, which cannot be appealed.

Additionally, the victimized female officer filed a civil lawsuit attached to the criminal proceedings. Considering her immense physical and mental suffering, the judge ordered Officer Chang to pay the victim NT$600,000. The civil ruling can be appealed. (Editor: Chen Ren-hua) 1150425
