(Central News Agency, Manila, Correspondent Lin Xingjian, 25th) The Manila City Government today held its first "Manila Summer Pride Parade," with thousands of people enthusiastically participating, demonstrating respect and support for diverse gender identities.

The parade began at 4 PM, featuring colorful floats, creative costumes, and drag performances, attracting thousands of LGBTQIA+ individuals and supporters. Manila citizens along the route waved rainbow flags in welcome, and participants held a street party in the evening.

This event was organized by the Manila City Tourism Bureau to highlight anti-discrimination policies and affirm the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community to society.

Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso told the Central News Agency that this was Manila City's first "Summer Pride Parade," and the enthusiastic participation of citizens showed respect and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Domagoso said: "Manila City does not like prejudice. In our eyes, and under the law, everyone is equal... We hope to express recognition and respect for the LGBTQIA+ community and value their presence in the Philippine capital."

He also invited people from Taiwan to attend next year's grand event, stating, "Manila welcomes you."

City Councilor Jhun Ibay told the Central News Agency that the city government is promoting various measures to support gender equality, including laws related to establishing exclusive gender-friendly restrooms.

Otlum, a gay man participating in the parade, believes that Manila City is already quite friendly to the LGBTQIA+ community, but due to religious beliefs, he still holds conservative views on same-sex marriage, stating, "We must revere God."

Nash, a lesbian woman, believes that there is still room for improvement in government support for the LGBTQIA+ community, including passing the long-delayed "Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Gender Expression Equality Bill" (SOGIE Equality Bill), hoping that one day the Philippines can also, like Taiwan, legally protect the rights related to same-sex marriage.

The SOGIE Bill aims to ensure that all people receive equal access to public services, medical care, and employment opportunities without discrimination.

The organizers emphasized that the LGBTQIA+ community plays an important role in shaping Manila's urban image, contributing to art, fashion, entertainment, and daily life. The city government will continue to create a gender-equal environment for all citizens. (Edited by Zhang Zhixuan) 1150425
