After reviewing surveillance footage, a man surnamed Li was identified as a major suspect and has been arrested. It is not ruled out that he will be transferred for prosecution on suspicion of attempted murder.
The Taipei City Fire Department received a report from the Railway Police Bureau around 2 PM this afternoon that a person had been assaulted and injured. Upon arrival, the injured party was found to be a girl about 2 years old, who was conscious before being sent to the hospital, but had swelling on her cheeks and limbs. Paramedics transported the injured party to National Taiwan University Hospital for treatment.
The Taipei Branch of the Railway Police Bureau stated in writing that at 2:25 PM, a report was received that a person was being pushed and hit in the main hall of Taipei Main Station. After dispatching officers to the scene and reviewing surveillance footage, it was confirmed that the suspect had kicked the victim in the abdomen. The police arrested the man surnamed Li involved in the case as a現行犯 (flagrant offender).
The police said that after reviewing surveillance footage, the suspect was identified as a man surnamed Li in his 40s. When Li saw the Filipino girl passing by in the main hall of Taipei Main Station, he first kicked her in the abdomen. After the girl fell to the ground, he then stepped on her back.
The police stated that the man surnamed Li has been arrested, and his identity and motive for the crime are still under investigation.
