The suspects had no grievances with the victims and had repeatedly shot at glass and car windows in different locations.
The Fifth Precinct of the Taichung City Police Department explained that they received a report on the 20th about storefront windows of a furniture store and car windows in Beitun District being damaged by steel pellets. After expanding surveillance footage review, they identified a suspicious vehicle with an 'AB' license plate. Through technological investigation and cross-referencing relevant data, they pinpointed the suspects' getaway vehicle and hideout, then applied for and obtained a search warrant from the Taichung District Court.
The police stated that on the morning of the 24th, the special investigation team, in conjunction with the Special Operations Team of the City Police Department's Security Brigade, conducted a raid in潭子區. They apprehended four suspects, including those surnamed Wu, Chen, and Wang, on the spot. Seized items included one air gun used in the crime, gun components, a batch of steel pellets, heroin, and Etomidate vape cartridges.
Police investigation revealed that suspect Chen was responsible for driving the car, carrying suspects Wu, Wang, and one other to the crime scenes, where they randomly selected targets. Investigations also found that Chen and the others were involved in incidents in Daya District and Houli District on the 20th and 21st, repeatedly using steel pellets to shoot at glass and vehicle windows in unspecified locations.
The police pointed out that the suspects claimed to have no grudges or disputes with the victims. The air gun used in the crime was purchased from a survival game store. The entire case has been referred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for investigation under charges of violating the Firearms, Ammunition, and Swords Control Act, destruction of property, endangering public safety, and violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
