(Central News Agency reporter Wu Hsin-yun, Taipei, 25th) Minister of Labor Hung Shen-han announced today that the new amendments to the Occupational Safety and Health Act are expected to be implemented on July 1, and the Taiwan Occupational Safety Card will be gradually promoted, with this year's goal of increasing the number of people trained with the occupational safety card to 300,000.

The Ministry of Labor held the opening ceremony for the "Walking with Light - Exhibition for Rebuilding Workers Injured in Occupational Accidents" starting today at Building F of the Bottle Cap Factory Taipei Manufacturing Center. Minister Hung Shen-han made the above statement when interviewed by the media after attending the ceremony, which was co-hosted by the Ministry of Labor and the Occupational Disaster Prevention and Reconstruction Center.

To reduce the high incidence of occupational disasters at construction sites, the Ministry of Labor promoted the "Taiwan Occupational Safety Card" in 2019 to enhance workers' disaster prevention knowledge, requiring construction contractors to ensure that all workers on site possess an occupational safety card, and if not, to require them to undergo training.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Labor announced the promotion of an action plan to strengthen workplace disaster reduction, and also plans to reach 500,000 people with the "Taiwan Occupational Safety Card" within three years. Currently, the number of occupational safety cards issued is 266,669.

Hung Shen-han stated in an interview that the new amendments to the Occupational Safety and Health Act are expected to take effect on July 1, and the number of occupational safety cards will be gradually promoted. This year's target is to reach 300,000, and discussions are currently underway with relevant industries and labor unions to promote alliance for occupational disaster prevention.

Hung Shen-han said that administrative departments will invest more resources in training and education, with the primary goal of first increasing training capacity. In the past, training was conducted by the industry, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will take on more roles in the future, and feasibility discussions will be held with the industry regarding the occupational safety card and related site management.

In addition, regarding the recent protest by the RCA (Radio Corporation of America) Employee Care Association against the Ministry of Labor's unauthorized cancellation of special health examinations, Hung Shen-han also emphasized that a meeting will be held next week with relevant groups to discuss implementation details, hoping to improve the execution of special health examinations and provide more support to RCA occupational disaster workers, especially with assistance for health examination resources.
