A walking event for the Danjiang Bridge was held today, attracting a continuous stream of people to the bridge to enjoy 360-degree views of the Tamsui River estuary and the Bali coastline. The event also featured live band performances and market stalls, creating a festive atmosphere.

Organized by the New Taipei City Government, the 'Good Friends Come See the Bridge - Danjiang Bridge Walking Event' started this morning at the Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf, with Mayor Hou Yu-ih firing the starting gun.

The Danjiang Bridge is scheduled to open for traffic on May 12. While various bridge-climbing, running, and cycling events held last week required registration, the Civil Affairs Bureau opened today's event to everyone without registration. This attracted a large number of people, forming a spectacular human chain along the bridge.

The walking route, spanning approximately 2.5 kilometers, started from Fisherman's Wharf, crossed the main bridge, and circled back at the Bali end. Participants were able to admire the magnificent scenery of the Tamsui River mouth and Bali from different angles. Photo points and supply stations along the way attracted many families, creating a lively atmosphere.

The event combined walking, music, markets, and limited on-bridge experiences. Many captured historic moments with their phones and cameras. One citizen remarked that while there will be sidewalks after opening, walking on the main bridge itself before traffic begins holds special significance.

The city government noted that the Danjiang Bridge is the world's longest single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge, blending the Tamsui sunset with humanistic landscapes. Once completed, it will become a significant landmark in Northern Taiwan. It is expected to reduce travel time between Tamsui and Bali by about 25 minutes and will connect with light rail and surrounding roads, strengthening the transportation network.
