(CNA Reporter Huang Kuo-fang, Chiayi City, 24th) Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chiayi mayoral candidate and Legislator Wang Mei-hui rode a scooter today carrying Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim to visit historical sites in Chiayi City. VP Hsiao highly praised Chiayi City's deep cultural heritage.
In the afternoon, accompanied by Wang Mei-hui, VP Hsiao visited the Alishan Forest Railway Garage Park, Beimen Station, and Hinoki Village in Chiayi City. Because Wang frequently rides a scooter to serve her constituents as a representative, for one segment of the itinerary, Wang gave VP Hsiao a ride on her scooter.
Wang Mei-hui mentioned that she usually rides alone to serve the public, so carrying the Vice President made her a bit nervous. Although the scooter is 20 years old, it undergoes regular maintenance and inspections, never emits black smoke, and has been her best assistant in serving constituents over the years.
VP Hsiao said that seeing how much Wang cherishes this scooter, its rich history, and how many Chiayi citizens it has served, she felt very safe sitting on the back, even though it had been a long time since she rode on a scooter.
VP Hsiao also inspected the high-quality "Formosensis" train built from cypress wood for the Forest Railway, as well as the newly built high-end "Sen Li" train, which was supported by the Executive Yuan's Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program.
During an interview, Wang Mei-hui said she invited VP Hsiao to experience Chiayi City's culture and heritage, especially the Forest Railway trains that attract tourists to the city. She noted that when VP Hsiao served as a legislator, she also jointly fought for the Forward-looking Program funds crucial for the preservation and restoration of the Forest Railway.
