(CNA, Tainan, 24th, Reporter Chang Jung-hsiang) A man surnamed Tsai attacked a high school student who was walking home from school in Tainan City, attempting sexual assault. After being transferred to the Taiwan Tainan District Prosecutors Office, prosecutors applied to the Taiwan Tainan District Court for detention tonight, which was approved.

The Tainan District Court stated that Tsai is suspected of committing crimes including attempted forcible sexual intercourse against a minor and attempted robbery against a minor by an adult. The suspicion is grave, and Tsai has admitted to the crimes.

The Tainan District Court determined that Tsai poses a risk of fleeing, destroying, forging, or altering evidence, or colluding with accomplices or witnesses. The crime was not a spur-of-the-moment act; he has a weak concept of obeying the law and low self-restraint, posing a risk of repeatedly committing forcible sexual intercourse and robbery, and therefore ordered his detention.

The assaulted student was walking on the sidewalk in Yongkang District after school at 5:50 PM on the 22nd when Tsai, wearing a mask and gloves, approached from behind, suddenly covered the student's mouth, and pulled his schoolbag, attempting to drag him into an empty lot by the road.

The victim struggled with Tsai and called for help. A passing motorcyclist noticed, stopped, picked up a wooden stick by the road, and stepped forward to deter the attacker. Seeing this, Tsai immediately fled. The student then used a smartphone to take a picture of Tsai's back and reported the incident to the police accompanied by the motorcyclist.

The victim suffered multiple contusions. The police immediately formed a task force and found Tsai riding a motorcycle on Shengli Road in the East District yesterday afternoon, promptly intercepting and arresting him, and handing him over for prosecution. (Edited by Li Ming-tsung) 1150424
