TAINAN (CNA) - A high school girl in Tainan was attacked from behind while walking on a sidewalk on the 22nd. The suspect, a 42-year-old man surnamed Cai, was arrested yesterday. Investigations revealed that Cai had premeditated the attack, scouting the area more than 10 times, and randomly targeted the student for an attempted sexual assault. Cai, a native of Penghu with no prior record, worked in a factory in Rende and lived in the East District. On the day of the incident, at around 5:50 PM, Cai approached the student near a bus stop in Yongkang District, covered her mouth, and tried to drag her into a vacant lot. A passing motorcyclist intervened with a wooden stick, causing Cai to flee. The student filmed his back while escaping, which helped police identify and arrest him in the East District yesterday afternoon. Cai will be sent to the Tainan District Prosecutors Office with a recommendation for detention.
