(Central News Agency reporter Hao Hsueh-ching, Taichung, 24th) The Taichung City Police Department announced today the busting of a drug trafficking ring, seizing 4,200 drug coffee packets worth over NT$1.6 million. The packaging was found to be highly diverse, featuring animated Q-version designs and the currently popular Labubu to attract buyers.
The Criminal Investigation Corps of the Taichung City Police Department explained that in the first half of the 114th year of the Republic Era, a case of possession and consumption of coffee packet drugs was uncovered in the North District of Taichung City. Tracing the source revealed a large-scale and organized drug trafficking ring in central Taiwan. A special task force was immediately formed by the tech investigation team, reporting to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for commanded investigation.
After the special task force verified the organizational structure of the ring, consisting of a warehouse manager surnamed Huang and 4 delivery personnel (little bees) including those surnamed Yen and Chen, the police, seeing the time was ripe, applied for search and arrest warrants from the Taichung District Prosecutors Office and Taichung District Court. They successfully arrested the drug ring in Dacun Township of Changhua County, and Dali and Taiping Districts of Taichung City. Both the warehouse manager Huang and the delivery person Yen were detained by court order.
The police stated that at the drug storage warehouse and in the vehicles used for crimes, they seized evidence including 4,200 drug coffee packets worth over NT$1.6 million, ketamine, and NT$250,000 in cash.
Upon inspecting the coffee packets, the police found highly diverse packaging designs, including Q-version patterns of Crayon Shin-chan, Usavich, Captain America, and Batman, and even the currently popular Labubu. It was assessed that the ring was trying to innovate to attract customer bases and evade police detection. However, they could not escape the net of justice and were busted by the police. After police interrogation, the entire case was transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for investigation under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, and has been concluded and indicted.
Chi Yen-hsi, commander of the Criminal Investigation Corps of the Taichung City Police Department, urged the public to be aware of novel packaging designs and not to use drugs out of curiosity. Besides causing addiction symptoms and affecting health, drug use will also result in being prosecuted by the police under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. (Editor: Li Hsi-chang) 1150424
