(CNA, Kaohsiung, 24th, Reporter Hong Xueguang) To prevent businesses from hoarding and driving up prices, causing a "plastic bag chaos," the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office joined forces with the city government and the Kaohsiung City Investigation Station of the Investigation Bureau yesterday to inspect plastic businesses in Sanmin and Fengshan districts. The inspection revealed that on-site supplies were sufficient, and no unreasonable price hikes or price gouging were found.

In response to the recent price fluctuations of daily necessities such as plastic bags, the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office launched a joint inspection operation yesterday afternoon to implement the goals of the "Livelihood Crime Investigation Liaison Platform" of the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office. The operation was led by Head Prosecutor Zheng Boren and Prosecutor Shen Changqi, in coordination with consumer protection officers from the Kaohsiung City Government's Administrative and International Affairs Bureau, the Economic Development Bureau, and the Kaohsiung City Investigation Station of the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau.

The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office pointed out today that personnel went to plastic trading firms in Sanmin District and plastic bag manufacturing factories in Fengshan District to conduct in-depth inspections on purchase/sale prices and supply/demand conditions. After interviewing the operators, they found that although recent sales prices have adjusted somewhat in line with upstream costs, field checks by inspectors confirmed that on-site supplies were sufficient. No unreasonable price hikes or price gouging were discovered, and market supply and demand remain largely stable.

The Kaohsiung Prosecutors Office stated that civilian livelihood stability is the cornerstone of social security. In the future, they will continue to maintain close contact with city consumer protection officers, the Economic Development Bureau, and investigation agencies through the liaison platform to track the market conditions of plastic products in their jurisdiction. If any businesses are found to be taking the opportunity to hoard, gouge prices, or commit criminal offenses such as violating the Fair Trade Act, they will be strictly investigated and prosecuted according to the law to protect consumer rights.
