(Central News Agency reporter Pan Zi-yu, Taipei, 24th) The National Development Fund is doubling down on its support for local placemaking, announcing via a press release today that the application deadline for the "Revitalization Financing Plan for Local Placemaking Businesses" will be extended to June 30, 2027, to promote balanced urban-rural economic development. According to NDF statistics, as of March 2026, it had assisted 58 local placemaking projects in obtaining NT$175 million in operational funding from financial institutions.

In 2024, Typhoon Gaemi hit Taiwan, causing severe damage. That year, the National Development Council announced the launch of the NDF's revitalization financing plan to help local placemaking businesses obtain necessary funds for recovery and operational development through measures like interest subsidies.

The NDF issued a press release today pointing out that since the implementation of this plan, local placemaking teams have responded positively. Therefore, the NDF has extended the application period by one year, to June 30, 2027.

The NDF stated that this plan provides up to NT$5 million in credit guarantee when each local placemaking business applies for financing from financial institutions. Furthermore, to ease their interest burden, the NDF provides an interest subsidy based on the Chunghwa Post 2-year variable time savings rate plus 0.5%. The subsidy period can last up to 3 years (subsidizing half the interest in the 3rd year), and the guarantee fee during the period is fully covered by the NDF.

Yeh Chun-hsien, Minister of the National Development Council, stated that while general economic development patterns move from industry to daily life, local placemaking expands from daily life into local industrial development patterns. It not only showcases the local economy and culture but will also become an important driving force for Taiwan's economic development.

Yeh Chun-hsien mentioned that following the disaster caused by Typhoon Gaemi a few years ago, a local placemaking team in Shuilin, Yunlin, received timely funding assistance from this plan, enabling the farm to speed up its rehabilitation and production reorganization, gradually resuming normal operations after autumn. A team in Hengchun, Pingtung, also used the plan's financial assistance to strengthen the integration of "digital nomads" and "local festivals," attracting external capital, driving local procurement, and stably creating job opportunities, thus transforming their placemaking experience into a sustainable, exportable business model.

The NDF noted that through assistance such as extending the application deadline and interest subsidies, it hopes to act as a solid backing for local placemaking teams, accompanying more businesses as they steadily grow and realizing the vision of balanced economic development.
