(Central News Agency reporter Su Ssu-yun, Taipei 24th) Currently, Taiwan's odd-lot stock trading opens at 9:10 AM, differing from regular trading which opens at 9:00 AM. The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) reported that after evaluation by the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), discussions are underway to align the odd-lot market's order placement and trading hours with the regular market. Following surveys of market participants and feasibility studies, it is estimated that odd-lot trading hours could be advanced to 9:00 AM by the end of July next year at the earliest.

Democratic Progressive Party legislator Kuo Kuo-wen recently questioned in the Legislative Yuan that the current odd-lot trading still differs from regular trading, with the first matching for odd-lots occurring 10 minutes after opening (9:10 AM), which could lead to missing order opportunities. He also inquired about the possibility of opening odd-lot day trading. FSC Chairman Peng Chin-lung agreed to submit a written report within one month.

The FSC's written report pointed out that with the continuous expansion of the odd-lot market size and significantly increased investor participation, market demands for trading convenience and institutional fairness have also risen. After evaluation by the TWSE,

Considering the fairness of odd-lot investors, and balancing investor risk, as well as the operational and system load of securities firms, discussions will first focus on aligning the odd-lot market's order placement and trading hours with the regular market. Based on market participant opinion surveys and feasibility study stages, it is estimated that the earliest implementation could be by the end of July next year. (Editor: Chang Liang-chih) 1150424
