NEW TAIPEI (CNA) - President Lai Ching-te visited the Xinyue Funeral Home today to console the family of Officer Chen Qian-wen from the Taipei City Police Department's Zhongzheng 1st Precinct, who passed away due to postpartum hemorrhage. He instructed the Ministry of the Interior to provide full assistance. Officer Chen gave birth to her first child on the 18th but died despite emergency treatment; her baby girl is also being treated for brain damage due to lack of oxygen. Accompanied by Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang and Police Chief Chang Jung-hsing, the President paid his respects and spent 15 minutes listening to the family. He requested relevant agencies to help clarify the truth and preserve evidence as the family requested. Minister Liu stated that the newborn is in the ICU at MacKay Memorial Hospital and that the ministry will follow the President's orders for preferred compensation and investigation into potential negligence at the clinic.
