(CNA, Taitung, 23rd, Reporter Lu Tai-cheng) Kuomintang (KMT) Taitung County Councilor Wang You-li from Green Island Township was summoned by prosecutors and investigators yesterday on suspicion of defrauding assistant fees. Early this morning, the prosecutor ruled that she be released on bail of NT$300,000 due to major suspicion.

In June 2024 (113th year of the Republic of China), the Legislative Yuan passed the third reading of the "Local Public Representatives' Compensation and Expenses Subsidies and Village Chiefs' Affairs Subsidy Regulations," raising the monthly ceiling for assistant fee subsidies for county and city councilors from NT$80,000 to NT$160,000. Over a year after the new system took effect, Taitung prosecutors and investigators recently received reports of a county councilor allegedly misusing assistant fees.

Personnel from the Taitung County Investigation Station of the Investigation Bureau took a Coast Guard Administration vessel to Green Island yesterday morning, bringing Wang You-li and related individuals back to the station for questioning. When disembarking at Taitung's Fugang Fishing Port, Wang You-li responded to media inquiries by saying, "Reported for corruption, not quite understanding the situation, everything is fine."

Around 8 PM yesterday, the Taitung County Investigation Station successively transferred Wang You-li and related individuals to the Taitung District Prosecutors Office for further questioning. As Wang You-li entered the prosecutors' office, she responded to media questions, saying, "It's an assistant fee issue," "I'm wronged," and "Someone is privately saying they want me dead."

The Taitung District Prosecutors Office prosecutor interrogated them overnight and ruled around 2 AM today that Wang You-li be bailed at NT$300,000, while another involved individual, a woman named Tsai, was bailed at NT$100,000.

Since Wang You-li has already registered with the KMT Taitung County Committee to run for the next Green Island Township Mayor, and is now released on bail pending investigation, Wu Hsiu-hua, chairwoman of the KMT Taitung County Committee, stated that the nomination process will be reassessed based on the investigation's outcome.
