(CNA Reporter Chang Jung-hsiang, Tainan, 23rd) A high school girl in Tainan was suddenly attacked from behind by a man while walking on the sidewalk after school yesterday. He attempted to drag her into a vacant lot by the road. A helpful citizen stopped him with a wooden stick, and the man fled immediately. The police arrested the suspect this afternoon and plan to hold a press conference tomorrow to explain the details.

The Yongkang Precinct of the Tainan City Police Department stated tonight that after reviewing relevant evidence, the task force identified the suspect. At 5:55 PM, they spotted the involved 32-year-old man surnamed Tsai riding a scooter on Shengli Road in the East District and immediately intercepted and arrested him.

Preliminary police investigations show that Tsai works in the service industry. The motive for the crime remains unclear and awaits clarification.

The attacked female student was walking on the sidewalk in Yongkang District toward a bus stop after school at 5:50 PM yesterday. As she was looking down at a message on her phone, a man wearing a mask and gloves and smelling of betel nut approached from behind. He suddenly reached out, covered her mouth, pulled at her schoolbag, and tried to drag her into a nearby vacant lot.

The student struggled with the man and cried for help. A scooter rider noticed, stopped, picked up a wooden stick from the side of the road, and yelled to stop the attack. Seeing this, the man immediately fled. The student quickly took a photo of the man's back with her phone and reported the incident to the police accompanied by the scooter rider. Following the attack, the student suffered multiple contusions and is currently resting at home. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150423
