Study: EU Immigrant Population Hits Record High in 2025, Reaching 64.2 Million

(CNA Berlin, 22nd, Comprehensive Foreign Dispatch) According to a research report released today by the Migration Research and Analysis Center at the ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin (RFBerlin), the number of immigrants living in the EU has climbed to a record 64.2 million in 2025, an increase of about 2.1 million from the previous year.

Citing data from Eurostat and the UN Refugee Agency, the report noted that the number of immigrants living in the EU was only about 40 million in 2010.

The research shows that Germany remains the country taking in the most foreign-born populations in the EU, with nearly 18 million, of which 72% are of working age. Spain is the fastest-growing country for immigrants recently, with its foreign-born population increasing by about 700,000, bringing the total to 9.5 million.

The study pointed out that the distribution of immigrants across EU countries is uneven. Countries like Luxembourg, Malta, and Cyprus have a relatively high proportion of immigrants relative to their total populations.
